Basketball courts are available in a variety of sizes. The court in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is 94 by 50 feet (28.7 by 15.2 m). The court is somewhat smaller under International Basketball Federation (FIBA) guidelines, measuring 28 by 15 metres (91.9 by 49.2 ft). The size of the court varies a lot in amateur basketball.

The length of many earlier high school gyms was 84 feet (26 metres) or even 74 feet (23 metres).

Both baskets on basketball courts have a three-point arc. A basket from behind this arc is worth three points, whereas a shot from within this line or with a player’s foot touching the line is worth two points. The free-throw line, which is 15 feet from the backboard plane and where one stands while taking a foul shot, is placed within the three-point arc.

A foul shot is worth one point, but a shot made from the foul line while the game is still in progress is worth two points.
