Etta James Biography | Early Life, Songs, Controversies & Death Etta James was one of the most iconic and influential American soul singers of the 20th century. she is known for different styles of singing different style like gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, rock and roll, and soul. She was born in an African-American family in Los Angeles, California, and her musical career spanned more than five decades. James’s best-known songs include “At Last”, “All I Could Do Was Cry”, and “I’d Rather Go Blind”.  She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
