The Haunted House: A Ghost Story
The Haunted House | Podcast
It was a dark and stormy night when a group of five friends decided to explore the abandoned house on the edge of town. The house had been vacant for years, and rumours had circulated that it was haunted by the ghost of its former owner.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” asked Lily, the brave leader of the group. “I don’t want to get in trouble with the police for trespassing.”
“Don’t be such a chicken, Lily,” replied John, the joker of the group. “It’s just a bunch of old stories.” “What could go wrong?”
The group cautiously approached the house, with the wind howling and rain pouring down. They pushed open the rusty gate and made their way to the front door. As they stepped inside, the floorboards creaked, and the air was musty and damp.
“Whoa, this place is creepy,” whispered Emily, the quietest of the group.
“Let’s split up and look for clues,” said Lily, trying to sound brave. “Be careful and stay together.”
The friends split up, each taking a different room to explore. As they walked through the house, they heard strange noises and saw ghostly apparitions out of the corners of their eyes.
“I swear, I just saw something move,” said Jack, the sceptical member of the group.
“Quit messing around, Jack,” replied Sarah, the practical member of the group. “There’s nothing here but old furniture and cobwebs.”
But as they continued exploring, they found evidence that suggested the house had been inhabited more recently than they thought. There were fresh footprints in the dust, and some of the furniture looked like it had been moved recently.
“Guys, I don’t think we’re alone here,” whispered Lily as they regrouped in the living room.
Suddenly, they heard a loud crash upstairs and the sound of footsteps running away.
“We have to go check it out,” said John, bravely.
The group cautiously made their way up the stairs, their hearts pounding with fear. As they reached the top, they saw a figure disappear into a room at the end of the hallway.
“Let’s go,” said Lily, determined to solve the mystery once and for all.
They entered the room to find a small, dusty box sitting on a table in the centre of the room. As they opened it, they found a letter addressed to the former owner of the house.
The letter revealed that the owner had been wrongly accused of a crime he didn’t commit and had fled the town in fear of being arrested. He had left the house behind, hoping that someone would one day uncover the truth and clear his name.
Suddenly, they heard a loud noise behind them. They turned to see the ghostly figure of the former owner hovering in the air.
“You have uncovered the truth,” said the ghostly figure. “Thank you for freeing me from my torment.”
The friends fled the house, relieved to have solved the mystery and escaped with their lives. As they ran out into the rain, they knew that they would never forget the haunted house on the edge of town.
